Hours: Full-time
Contract type: Fixed-term (24 months). Subject to extension, dependent on funding.
Salary: £49,583.64 per annum for London based staff. International candidates will be offered an equivalent salary, based on a cost of living adjustment, with reference to numbeo.com

Description

This is an exciting opportunity to work with China Dialogue Trust in a new, strategic role – to work closely with our senior management and editorial teams to create impact through online and offline learning opportunities for policymakers, civil society, international organisations, philanthropies, and business in Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

This role, working closely with partners, will help us to build on our high quality journalism and expert analysis – about climate change, sustainability and the role of China’s trade and investment in the Global South – and support our strategy to create briefings, workshops, MOOCs/online lectures, curricula and more.

The ideal candidate will bring insights and expertise to build a series of in-person workshops, a curriculum, and a set of learning materials on China’s impact and influence on climate change and sustainability in Latin America, Africa, and Southeast Asia. They will draw on relevant expertise to help create an impactful programme that builds on the important work of China Dialogue Trust.

Main responsibilities

  • Working with the senior management team to create project plans for the development of convenings, workshops, and learning materials, including themes, concepts and programming, timelines, milestones, and budgets;
  • Scoping and partner mapping to identify and reach project partners (such as universities, civil society organisations, and policymakers) in key geographies and thematic areas;
  • Working with international external partners, including experts, civil society organisations, foundations, universities, and government departments to ensure alignment and project delivery;
  • Informed by China Dialogue Trust’s approach to Measurement, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), developing a MEL strategy for the project, including key performance indicators that support goals and objectives;
  • Attending in-person or online convenings and supporting their delivery. This may include workshop facilitation, writing reports and other materials, such as curricula;
  • Working with editors to establish and maintain high standards for learning materials;
  • Coordinating with the operations team on practical delivery of global workshops, managing budgets, risk assessments, and other key considerations;
  • Working with the operations team to conduct project evaluations on outcomes, identifying areas for learning and improvement.

Essential qualifications

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, the work and values of the China Dialogue Trust;
  • Experience managing relevant projects in research, policy, academic, or not-for-profit sector;
  • Ability to turn complex information, including data, into straightforward and compelling learning materials;
  • Ability to develop and maintain partnerships with governments, learning institutions, and civil society organisations in multiple geographies;
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Strong project management, problem-solving and cross-cultural communication skills;
  • Ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines;
  • Excellent English language skills.

Desirable qualifications

  • Relevant academic qualifications in fields such as development, climate change, or Chinese studies;
  • Career expertise related to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, China’s trade and investment in the Global South, and similar topics;
  • Experience with developing or managing MOOCs or online learning platforms such as Canvas;
  • Training and experience in workshop facilitation and/or curriculum development.
